8.3 The Samadhi of the Pratyeka

For example, one planned to go a predetermined place. However, when they are preparing to go or going, something happens to obstruct them from going to that place. That is the perception of things going wrong. Upon knowing that, they use all means to resolve to overcome the obstacle, no longer having hindrance. Such a Tao practitioner knows how to manipulate thousands of Dharmas. That is called the transportation of thousands of Dharmas to be clear.

Resolving these three unconsciousness in the Dharma is the Samadhi of the Pratyekas.

8.4 The Samadhi of the Arahant

When The Founding Master Shakyamuni Buddha was showing a stem of flower in the conference hall, the Venerable Mahakassapa smiled. The Lord immediately knew that the Venerable Mahakassapa has acquired the Samadhi Dharma Subject of Real Form and Formlessness.

Why did the Venerable smile? It is because he gained an intuition about:

Comprehending the three unconsciousness of each Dharma precept is the perfect comprehension of Dharma precept. A Tao practioner needs to obserse every Dharma to thoroughly know it, until they achieve the miraculous observation, profoundly recognizing the three unconsciousness of each Dharma. The function of Samadhi is to dissolve the unconsciousness for Tao practitioners effectively. Therefrom, a Tao practitioner carries out the resolution of thousands, millions of Samadhi in order to obtain the true acquisition, reaching the truth without entanglement in Dharma precepts.

8.5 The Samadhi of the Bodhisattva, Mahasattva Bodhisattva

The Bodhisattva rank knows well the permanent characteristics of Dharma precepts, which is the necessary essential point. Therefore, he could know the living beings’ sickness so that he could use appropriate means to resolve, transporting the Dharmas in such a way to integrate and assimilate, to be close and intimate in order to completely save the living beings.

It is after comprehending thoroughly thousands of Dharmas, using practically in perfect manner, knowing how to separate the orientation and non-orientation of thousands of Dharmas properly that a Tao practitioner can profoundly acquire thousands of Dharmas. Only the Buddhas have the complete accomplishment, whereas the Bodhisattva should not be self-satisfied but realizes the vow and conducts the vow until a certain future lifetime, when he is following the exact way of the Buddhas of Ten Directions, and only then will he enter the Nirvana.

There are many Tao practitioners, who like to practice the Dharma, but not willing to correct themselves; their lazy body is not willing to practice by following the Bodhisattva conduct so that they are not enlightened. The body and mind of Bodhisattva are progressing into one while the body and mind of living beings remain the separate two. The enlightenment appears only when the mind and the Dharma are reunified into one. Only when being one, a Tao practitioner is able to emerge from and enter into the True Contemplation of Samadhi.

A Tao practitioner who practices by themselves according to the conception from this lifetime to another lifetime still remains in the Buddha-Dharma, the Dharma-Buddha, even becomes more rebellious in reason and cannot follow the right path to liberation. In this Period of [His] Return, the Lord witnessed many Tao practitoners who used the fixed thought to emerge from contemplation, which belonged to heresy. In fact, without meditation, there is neither intuition nor development of Buddhist intelligence. Because of the above characteristics, Tao practitioners with many lifetimes of practice still could not harvest the results.

The Lord is tranquilly sitting on a block of stone, naturally in a perfect serenity, and gradually releasing with the breeze while emerging from meditation. The Trảng forest lanscape  with its uneven rocky crests virtually begins to manifest the scenes according to the True Meditation of the Meditation Master. —T. V.

This paragraph of sutra recorded when the Supreme Venerable Maitreya was emerging from the True Meditation to travel to the Heavenly world meeting the eighteen Arahants who were gathering to discuss about the truth.

The Meditation Master comes to an ancient temple, the roofs of the temple slightly curve as the two wings, which are broad and low like a king eagle spreading its wings to protect the visitors of all directions. The Lord enters into the temple where there are eighteen Venerables divided into three groups discussing about the truth of practicing the Dharma. The Lord uses His Telecommunication Ear, His Constitution’s Eyes of Samadhi Contemplation to see clearly and hear all without omission. The eighteen Arahants do not realize the presence of a Great Superior Arahant in the conference...

At that time, the Buddhas of Ten Directions unanimously pronounces the words of congratulation to the Buddha King (Maitreya), afterward say to the Bodhisattvas: “You all should go to the Khánh-Trang province, Long-Phụng Mountain, Long-Bửu Dharma where there is a Buddha with the Dharma title of the Buddha King (Maitreya), appearing in this period of Return. This Buddha has the responsibilities of reorganizing the Buddha Dharma, attesting the Return, and pronouncing the Four Conducts; making all who are unstably living and wrongly practicing the Dharma become the true Dharma of the Pure King, the One Essence – Four Conducts, in the purpose of bringing about good omen and guiding to the True Enlightenment. You all should go there respectfully to worship and admire the Lord, and receive the practice of the Four Conducts. The Lord granted the Bodhisattvas to pay homage, who would rely on the yellow light—that is being radiated— for simultaneously coming there to worship.”

All the Devas, Fairies, Dragons, and Saints are looking at the south east, where the fragrances of udumbara are overspreading, and hearing the voices diffusing in the space; all are bringing their offerings there to worship.

At that time in the Long-Bửu Palace, all the petals are as large as a red peach, looking like raspberries. The appearing Buddha King is dressing a white velvet robe, wearing the white pinkish Precious Maintenance Hat. There are nine flower buds on the hat. Each flower bud is diffusing the halo, rays of light, comprising the yellow light with its color of yellow-yellow light, the blue light with its color of blue-blue light, the pink light with its color of pink-pink light, the black light with its color of black-black light, and the white light [Especially, the unique white light has no color of white]. The Lord appearing in the sufficient state of thirty-two handsome forms steps on the flower with the splendid yellow rays of halo. From the Bodhisattvas, Divine Fairies and the Dragon Deities to the Arahants, Sravakas, and Pratyekas, all of them are looking without blinking their eyes and unanimously praising, they are now seeing what they have never seen before.

Suddenly, there are the praises in the air, “Due to countless virtuous merits of the Buddha, the Supreme Venerable is appearing in the Supreme Form and in Immeasurable Odor sufficiently without omission.” The Lord steps up to the Lion Throne and seats Himself in His place. All the different ranks admire and bow respectfully before the Lord and then according to their level, they all take their seats in their order in silence.

At that time, the Buddha King (Maitreya) is patient for twelve million minutes. The Lord’s face is serene, simple, and harmonious with everyone, making all ranks happy and encouraged with love and respect for Him, without a bit of false hope, expectation, or habitual thought. The Lord then says: “I fairly congratulate the eighteen Arahants for this conference in this Period of Return and Dharma-Ending Age. The Bodhisattvas are realizing, and countless other ranks practice tirelessly; all are maintaining the precious Dharma forever.”

For Tao practitioners with insufficient rooted capability and imperfect Buddhist intelligence, their transforming intelligence generates thousands of tranquil Dharmas, they therefore receive the blessed reward as Divine Humans and acquire each moral quality through the Dharma practice. With obscure intelligence, the transforming intelligence generates karmas by itself; They are living in all kinds of ups and downs. Practicing by and around thousands of profound ideas, it is difficult to be liberated from life and to acquire the True Enlightenment through cultivating.

Though they are faithful in their reason and act with unwavering mind of worship towards the Buddhas, but without the thorough penetration in the way of Dharma practice, how can they acquire the fruit of attainment?

I have made adequate manifestations for your sake, taking on the characteristics of a layman with all kinds of situations, deeply penetrating in the form, sound, odor, and taste to tell you not to be impregnated with Dharmas. From the good male Tao practitioners to the good female Tao practitioners, they are almost practicing the Dharma to seek for the compatible apparition, to receive for the blessed reward of Divine Humans. Very rare are those who practice with the Intuitive Apparition.

The Lord then pauses upon speaking at this point, there is a Bodhisattva stepping out and circularly walking around seven times with admiration and worship, he then respectfully asks: “Reverend the World’s Most Venerable, I have practiced into clearance of all living beings; It is not possible to search for just one more living being left. I now respectfully ask the Supreme Will to take pity on me to teach me how to act, how to practice the Dharma for the complete enlightenment of the Bodhi vow fruit.”

“Excellent! Clever! Oh Bodhisattva Bửu-Tịnh, you have practiced into clearance of all living beings in the theory, but have not attained the permanent characteristic of every living being precept. In each living being precept, millions of living beings have combined to become a Dharma precept. In each Dharma precept, there are numberless living beings. When you have been completely enlightened about the permanent characteristics of living beings, you entirely comprehended the evolution of Dharma precept. At that time, you acquire those things through witnessing, you then fully attain the complete enlightenment.”–Answered the Reverend Lord.

The whole body of the Bodhisattva Bửu-Tịnh is blooming with the flowers of Bửu-Pháp (Precious Dharma); lightly and freshly, He happily praising: “I have never yet heard what I am hearing today. Oh, the true Lord of Supreme Will, Unsurpassable Thị![104]” He respectfully bows before the Lord and then sits aside to admire. —T. V.

[104] ThịVietnamese name of the Supreme Maitreya Buddha, fully Từ Thị Di Lạc.

As for the Buddha King Maitreya, His making of salvation for the living beings is truly unthinkable. When the Lord returning to the world and becoming a Buddha, the Buddhas of Ten Directions praised Him; while the Bodhisattvas, Devas, Fairies, and Dragon Deities, as well as the Four Teams of Deities admired and welcomed Him with respect. Every time, the Lord emerged from meditation for complete salvation, there was a shaking of the Three Thousand Worlds. Meanwhile, a great number of Tao practitioners termed themselves Buddhas; by relying on the fixed thoughts, they knew that there was the appearance of Long-Hoa, but they could not meet the Lord. If practicing the Intuitive Apparition that could provide sufficiently effortful and virtuous deeds of the holy rank. Thereupon, a practitioner would be admitted to Long-Hoa without needlessly waiting for it.

The Buddhism is always based on the noble affection. Therefore, a true Tao practitioner themselves examines their faults to avoid the errors. The more eminent the thought is, the more the supernatural power appears. For those who are not yet perceiving a hearing, not yet understanding it, the Tathagata Constitution still accumulates this hearing, this knowledge, into its square containers. Until one day when they meet the Bodhisattva of full attainment, who only teaches a right sentence corresponding to what they heard in the past. Naturally, the mysterious constitution immediately gives it back to them. Each one, who practices rightly the ‘Self-Nature’, will see themselves in daily progress — that is the path in the universe approaching towards the Buddhas.

For a learned person, the supernatural power transforms into their intelligence. However, without practicing the Dharma, they are still wandering in the path of the birth and death. If someone is neither attached nor rebellious, their body is light and easy to receive the supernatural power; the more it comes in and out the more intelligent they are. Every Dharma has its permanent characteristic. For instance, the Dharma of a carpenter only knows about wood and all the tools of carpentry; When he is given an iron bar, he will obviously not know quite what to do with it.

As for the Dharma of a blacksmith, if he manufactures the door, with a piece of wood, he will not know how to do with it in the right way. Each career is a Dharma with its permanent characteristic. The one who is familiar in any career will make the supernatural power enter into their body; even while they are eating, resting, and sleeping, they also see it come into their body and ‘stand’ there. Therefore, for those who do not believe and think about, the spiritual consciousness cannot make its access.

Monks and nuns are afraid of Dharmas, so they must practice the dispassion to prevent the access of the spiritual consciousness. Until, penetrating the Tathagata Constitution, one realizes that the more eminence in the Dharma practice and the more excellence in the way of harmony are, the faster they know the supernatural power. The secular person with intelligence takes the spiritual consciousness. The Mediation Master neither takes nor leaves the spiritual consciousness, thereby entering the Tathagata Constitution; he therefore acquires the Supernatural Power of Samadhi.

Secular people are hearing with their ears, seeing with their eyes, and knowing with their heads, so their intelligence is still limited. Only Meditation Masters hear by the hearing, see by the seeing, and know by the knowing. Therefore, their intelligence becomes more transcendent, profoundly attaining the supernatural power.

A person succeeding in a career has already the Samadhi. One needs only to realize a Dharma and knows it well; the other Dharmas completely returns and serves them.

Only the Meditation Master looks at the spiritual consciousness of living beings to know them all. Looking at someone, the Meditation Master literally knows their thoughts, their characters. He therefore enlightens them according to the sickness they are infected in order to resolve their erroneous passions. It is not by making the pulpit and preaching interminably the Dharma in a certain way, then expecting the listeners to hear and realize it all. In fact, the Master must be close to his followers and solemnly teach each level, each Dharma every day, making them gradually awakened. In reality, teaching the Dharma to Tao practitioners to awaken them is not easy, it’s very difficult. The Enlightened One must know how to use great means in the hope of saving his followers to become enlightened.

Because of the multiple illnesses of living beings, the Bodhisattva must establish various conducts to save them according to their illnesses. Like a good physician, who examines the patient and prescribes the right medicine to cure their disease. Otherwise, by reciting, studying the sutra, or preaching millions of Dharmas and expecting that living beings must listen all of that, but a mistake is without knowing which Dharma is applied to which case and in what situation. Just like allowing a patient to enter the drugstore, this patient considers all kinds of medicine to be good and takes them all for using. Obviously, it does not cure the disease, but it rather makes it worse.

Preaching the Dharma, without being aware of the disease of erroneous passion in each living being, is similar to driving someone to the drugstore and letting them take all kinds of medicine for using. Even through countless thousands of lifetimes of faithfulness, such the Tao practitioners would never be enlightened. The Meditation Master must use the Samadhi in order to preach the Dharma clearly; therefrom, the listener will also be clear. Still being caught with erroneous passion, a good Dharma preacher will make the passionate listener more erroneously passionate with more reasons to give rise to rebellion.

A Tao practitioner, who acquires the Samadhi, has to realize millions of Dharmas of Samadhi, millions of Dharma of Samadhi supernatural power to be able to intuitively know about the previous lifetimes. The deeper the Samadhi the more previous lifetimes are intuitively seen. In Long-Hoa, there are quite a number of Tao practitioners who could recall only one previous lifetime, but they could not recall many of their previous lifetimes because they are still penetrating Dharma precepts, not achieving a deep understanding of Dharma natures. The Dharma permanent characteristic remains unchangeable before and after. For instance, someone living in the Fairy world at the end of their life, they are reborn in the human world today with the same gesture and character as in their previous lifetime, the only difference is their face.

By meeting Reverend Long-Hoa Sangha Chief and following the Lord to practice the Dharma enthusiastically, true disciples’ virtue and intelleigence were developed every day with the results that were so evident practically. The Reverend Lord was clearly aware that the human life does not last long before coming to old age, illness, and death. And at the present time, the truth of no-birth no-destruction is coming to the world to save humankind in an unthinkable manner. As long as one could realize it, they would not waste away the present lifetime, readily achieving the measureless, limitless, complete knowledge, and thus being enlightened.

The Bodhisattvas’ words are all sincere words of intuition, the words of the Buddhas’ interpretations. As for the words of ambition, desire, and ego, those are all hypothetical words of Duratama Mara. The Lord appeared in this secular world, but every time emerging from meditation to travel to the other worlds, He was respectfully welcomed with immeasurably rejoicing by the Devas, Fairies, Deities and Saints, who wished to receive the precious Dharma. Meanwhile, many Buddhist followers have never known that Long-Hoa has come to the world. The Bodhisattvas are now continuing the way of guiding the living beings released from the transmigration of birth and death while living beings are still vaguely expecting a miracle from the Thất Sơn Mountains.

In this Period of Return, most Tao practitioners do not have a deep understanding. The Visible Teaching specializes in the Visible Teaching. The practice of meditation conceives that the Supreme Secret is metaphysical in all aspects. The Sudden Teaching applies every place in tough, regardless of the morality. The practice of Gradual Teaching maintains the gradualness. If Tao practitioners do not finalize the combination of all, how can they attain the True Enlightenment!

The Easterners seek the truth by cultivating themselves in a particular manner and some thus acquired the Mind Seal. The Master of the Mind-Seal only transmits the truth to true Buddhist disciples with the mind of seeking for the Tao Dharma and believing in the spirit of attainment, who will gradually be annihilated their ignorance and attain the True Enlightenment. The Supreme Maitreya Buddha had to miraculously utilize this characteristic method in the Degenerate Life Period. The Lord could not assemble in large numbers at home while the [Vietnamese] communists did not allow it for the construction of virtue.

The Westerners study through material experimentation and announce the achievable outcomes to everyone known and seen. However, besides some advantages, there are some disadvantages as well—that is frequently destroyed later.

Through many generations, the Easterners have already known long ago that the human body and mind is covering all over the universe. Because the insubstantial combination of the Four Masses creates the corresponding body for the universe, both the interior body and exterior body are homogeneous; the human beings sympathize and receive the supernatural power of the universe. As for the Westerners, they do not exploit adequately the human body, so they have not yet truly known it.

The Buddha path does not accept the soul; it only recognizes the thoughts, which represent the soul. The soul is covering all over the emptiness and universe, so there are divine senses in correspondence to the soul. Human beings cannot judge the place where the thoughts are generated; they must follow the generating and destroying thoughts until having sufficiently effortful and virtuous deeds, they profoundly comprehend the immortal thoughts; only then will they have an understanding of the soul before they have an intuition of the supernatural power.

The soul is the non-dualistic form. The soul is supreme, clear-sighted, and unchangeable, bright and unending, that is the Tathagata Buddha. The Buddha path presumes IT to be the GREAT-EGO, the only self. The self in human body and in the Four Species is the temporary self, called the fictitious SMALL-EGO. The great ego is a precious pearl. The small ego is of that pearl’s light. In the eye of the Enlightened One, the soul is the Tathagata, inherently existing sufficiently supernatural powers. It does not accumulate nor reject. If accumulating, grasping, keeping, or rejecting are all far away and in wrong way.

Human beings, once being formed with an adequate body, naturally have the hearing-seeing-knowing. It is from the Soul Great Ego manifested to be correspondent to the body, which is generated from the Tathagata, so the supernatural power is naturally appearing from the Tathagata. There is all of that in the living beings, but when the Great Ego manifests in the human beings and the Four Species—where it is called the corresponding body, also known as the transformed body—who want to receive particular characteristics and they are thus separated. The Buddha has thoroughly known and so the Lord has said: all living beings have Buddha nature.  That means they all are able to progress to comprehend and attain the universe.

Only the step-by-step realistic practice will lead to the attainment. Otherwise, using intelligence to understand, consciousness to know, but neither understanding nor knowledge leads to attainment. A Tao practitioner wishing to have tranquility, even in a minute, still cannot get it because they are surrounded and evolved by the Devil Force. Therefore, when the Buddha enlightening the Bodhisattvas, who must have full belief, obedience, and respect in order to demolish the belt of Devil Force by themselves, which has imprisoned them for many lifetimes. This is neither an ordinary matter nor a minor affair... A Tao practitioner, though having an unwavering mind, fervent mind, but failing to conduct the vow in thousands of favorable and unfavorable Dharmas, only keeping on avoiding, annihilating the Dharma to be tranquil, will never truly get the clearing through this tranquility even in thousands of lifetimes. Being not clear, how could one receive the Secret Seal, which is conferred by the Tathagata Buddha?

There are many Tao practitioners who can see and know well through the study of sutra, but they do not really practice to completely save the living being natures in the tranquility and disturbance, the form and formlessness. Therefore, this knowledge likely is the unseeing and unknowing, and the Dharmas of supernatural powers does not appear to them.

The Supernatural Power is inherently in the unconsciousness.

Incessantly, after leaving it’s returning. —T. V.

Thus, the Dharma practice is not fussy, there is no need to study, worship or supplicate. The unceasing thoughts are the form without rest. During the day, a Tao practitioner should conduct their vow without generating or destroying thousands of Dharmas; at the nighttime, they should practice at least an hour of exerted meditation, trying to overcome the numerous obstacles of tirelessness, boredom, and sleepiness until there are no more entering thoughts during the meditation session. Afterwards, during the four periods [of walking, standing, laying, and sitting], all become tranquil. The natural truth simply appears and therefrom knowing that the realization of thousands of Dharmas is neither taking nor eliminating, neither more nor less, neither unified nor separated; It is the One Form, the perpetual staying nature.

Meditation requires the guidance of the Bodhisattva to have sufficient Supreme-Secret. The Supreme-Secret helps to resolve consciousness karma without generating thoughts, but it needs patience because the consciousness karma is more delicate than human beings. That is easy to say, but if the practice is not on the right path, the outcome will be hard to achieve. A Tao practitioner, even with a fervent spirit, but not having Buddhist intelligence still falls into fanaticism. For that reason, Reverend Long-Hoa Sangha Chief Maitreya has handed down to the world what is necessary for Tao practitioners, who are with a fervent, faithful mind, to succeedingly realize and fully enjoy the truth. From now on, under the guidance of the Bodhisattva, Tao practitioners can rest assured that the orthodoxy will no longer be lost.

If having not yet met a Good-Intelligent-Awakened One, a Tao practitioner should practice the rooted goodness. The spirit of rooted goodness and good will to make offerings creates the quality of virtuous merits, believing in the Triple Gem of Buddhism; such that spirit is always appreciated. Should not have desire in meditation because that will lead to fictitious expectations, a practitioner therefore easily is duped by the Devil associated with the Five Aggregates, undergoing all kinds of suffering. Primarily, self-constructing body-fate should be concerned with correcting the character. Nobody else has the authority to oblige us; only our own mentality can elevate us.

A wise person is harmoniously clear because of unfavorable Dharmas.

An unwise one stands against it creating ignorance. —T. V.

A Tao practitioner having the endurance of dishonors, patience of making a concession, and perseverance, comprehends clearly and knows how to execute Dharmas harmoniously without obstruction. Afterwards, they will acquire the No-Birth Dharma of Endurance. It is through the harmony of thoudsands of Dharmas that a Tao practitioner can thoroughly achieve the perfect harmony. This is the way of practice to reach Prajñàpāramitā, surpassing the Sravaka, Pratyeka and Arahant rank. That is the Bodhisattva rank, who has all kinds of supernatural powers appearing from the naturalness and spontaneity.

After having acquired the supernatural power of Bodhisattva, a Tao practitioner still needs to penetrate deeply in the favorable and unfavorable Dharma precepts without omission, he then readily attains the complete salvation of living being natures. That is the Tranquil- Buddha Salvaged-Nation Accomplishing the Living Beings. The Bodhisattva rank profoundly acquires the relative emptiness; only the Buddhas completely accomplishes the endless relative emptiness.

The absolute emptiness differs from the relative emptiness. To the Bodhisattva rank, the relative emptiness means he has conducted the vow and realized the vow to achieve the Suchness Dharma. However, he does not store it in his mind. The Bodhisattva knows how to put it in each square container of the Tathagata Constitution. When having a Dharma, he naturally knows and spontaneously executes it appropriately with neither excess nor lack. The Dharma, after being used, it is returned to its square containers in the Tathagata Constitution. It is the Secret-Seal that the Bodhisattva knows how to use it properly.

From the time of The World’s Most Venerable to the return of the Supreme Venerable Maitreya appearing, the Lords have showed the Patriarchs and the Venerables that clinging to the absolute emptiness is becoming indifferent — They rather need to resolve thousands of Dharmas in the hope of acquiring the truth.

Entering the relative emptiness without seeing the relative emptiness but thoroughly knowing it, that is the Enlightenment about Form. —T. V.

The Enlightenment of Form with sufficiently practical utilization will achieve the Enlightenment-about-Form Part. The One with the Enlightenment-about-Form Part, in the four periods in life, always knows how to appear in His enlightened body without error when making use of favorable and unfavorable Dharmas. With sufficiency of effortful and virtuous merits, from the Enlightenment-about-Form Part readily reaches the Tathagata Part.[105]

[105] The Enlightenment-about-Form Part and the Tathagata Part are among the Eight Parts, also called the Eight Masses, of Nirvana.

The Dharma utilization in profound sentiment is to grasp the Suchness Truth.

The Secret-Seal is conferred by the Tathagata to the awakened sentiment. —T. V.

In this secular world as well as in the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds, those who discuss about the Secret-Seal cannot overpass the two above Indication Seal’s verses of Reverend Long-Hoa Sangha Chief Maitreya. There was a Meditation Master with full enlightenment, who also had to wait for eighteen lifetimes to meet the inherited Bodhisattva so that he could be attested by this Bodhisattva, in order for him be integrated into the constitution!
