8.7 An Intimate Conversation about the Progression of Buddhism

The Bodhisattva rank practices the conduct of solving karma because they comprehend the moving essential nature of the Tathagata Constitution, relying on the Tathagata to be enlightened, thus solving karmas to completely clear karmas out to become a Buddha. For that reason, the Bodhisattvas never annihilate karma for practice of wishes. —T. V.

In their cultivation of Buddhism, those of the Two-Levels (Dviyana) realize that by the consciousness karma, they often become annoyed, being transformed to all directions through hearing-seeing-knowing. In facts, that is the moving essential nature of the Tathagata Constitution; seeing the complexity and difficulty, they keep away from it in order to annihilate the karma. Consequently, their cultivation falls into the Fairy Path.

As for the Bodhisattva rank, he is relying on hearing-seeing-knowing. That means leaning on the Tathagata, transporting thousands of Dharmas to surmount all obstacles to seek for True Enlightenment. Therefore, he determinedly solves all karmas thoroughly, never annihilating karma to cultivate completely and become a Buddha.

On the path to practice Buddhism, the Bodhisattvas practice the Dharma subject of Buddha Level (Buddhayana), mainly observing the Tathagata. Observing the Tathagata is a Dharma subject of the Buddha Dharma without leaving the secular world to be enlightened. The mind has experienced all situations, unfavorable circumstances to solve karmas of entanglements, attachments, and fears of the Bodhisattvas. Owing to the frequent observation, they could see the karma that moves in and out—opposition and divergence frequently exist in their own body as well as in all human beings. For that reason, the others frequently catch what one says, getting angry or joyful, satisfied or doubtful. Human beings only learn to live after their karma rather than to live righteously. Therefore, the Bodhisattvas get rid of all related narrow things, which generated karma, and live a life which only clarifies the consciousness karma and leads to awakeness. —T. V.

There are many levels of observing the Tathagata. That is a Dharma subject of the One Level (Ekayana), which practices directly to the tranquil mind to attain the unwavering mind, thus being perfectly liberated through knowing, seeing, and solving.

First of all, those of the One Level (Ekayana) rank have been joyfully detached profoundly, leaning on the Dharma of observation through hearing-seeing-knowing in the secular world, called without leaving the secular world. They have overcome Dharmas, returning to the mind, being disengaged without entanglement. That is deeper than the High Level (Mahayana), free from doubt and reaching the great tranquility.

Owing to the frequent observation, the practitioner could discern that the consciousness karma moves out and in, causing wrong attachment in oneself; they could see that all are running after the karma unable to be free from the life. The karma is so deeply rooted that it becomes the rooted karma. Being clearly and meticulously aware, the practitioner avoids mistakes in the subtle fetter-karma. Therefrom, they can get rid of narrow things without generating karma; their mind-body is in tranquility. Then, the Good-Intelligent-Awakened Master miraculously utilizes the Special Principle of Suddenness-to-Awakeness to enlighten and help them acquire the Supreme Rank True Enlightenment.

Those of One Level (Ekayana) rank are no longer discriminating Dharmas, carrying out the absolute Dharma properly, taking the Tathagata and leaning on the Tathagata without any ripple waves of hesitance or opposition. Once perceiving the Dharma of Suddenness-to-Awakeness, the practitioner’s hearing-seeing-knowing becomes clear, they become disengaged and recognize the permanent characteristic that they themselves are strongly holding and that of Tathagata Dharmas. They then are in great tranquility, entering the unwavering mind.

For Tao practitioners, who have not cleared the reason, who have not been instructed by a Good-Intelligent-Awakened Master, still having attachment and opposition, if they practiced the Sudden Teaching, it would be very harmful for them. That is because they neither fulfill nor know how to clear out the karma. Additionally, they are using the mind of greed, resentment, and ignorance that belong to the reckless Suddenness Subject, nourishing more disease—that is why it’s very harmful.

There was a Bodhisattva who respectfully asked the Buddha: “Reverend the World’s Most Venerable, I am in erroneous passion and the more I practice the more erroneously passionate I become. I try to resolve the karma, aiming at seeing the karma in order to resolve. Otherwise, being spontaneously tranquil, I could never see the karma.” The World’s Most Venerable then replied: “You see it, but by which means?”

The Bodhisattva answered: “I base on the seeing to see it.” The Lord smiled and said: “The seeing, which is as same as your sight, can never truly see; it only is beyond the seeing that can truly see.” —T. V.

In this Period of Return, so many Tao practitioners  do not give their whole mind to fulfilling their vows to solve karma. It is very difficult to see the karma. Even a dilligent practitioner, who could perceive it but with superficial seeing, does not truly see it all. Having practiced, one can see the karma manifesting itself in order to resolve it. Must be in harmony with the mind that stands outside the situation, without entanglement, without conservative personality, to truly see through the seeing.

For example, we could see clearly the karma of other peoples, but we could never see our own karma. Even a Tao practitioner paying attention could not see it entirely either. Using the seeing to see that means using the Tathagata Constitution’s Eyes to see.

The Bodhisattva has praised: “The Salvation Buddha Path is so wonderful! Remaining within the karma, I can never see the karma; remaining in the error, I can never avoid the erroneous reason and act. Lying tranquilly, I could never acquire the truth on the Buddha path. I must follow the footprints of the Buddha Bodhisattva to be matured in Buddhism. I have truly known or experienced progress in practicing Buddhism. So, I should advance at each stage of the progress, aiming at the clear awakenness and realizing the heart of the Buddha that has saved me. The love of the Buddha is truly the love in every direction, which supports us in every step of our advancement. I have clearly known the karma: I myself created it, I myself created obstructions with frequent expectations of life, and my ego that I myself also created it. Nevertheless, when detaching everything in hope of clearing the karma out, I myself received the accumulating karma of lying tranquilly and waiting for the truth of enlightenment.

I have heard that, it is after clearing the karma out that one could be in harmony without obstruction to see and know thoroughly, thus acquiring the Knowing-Seeing. If not being in harmony, one has never cleared the karma out.”

After praising, the Bodhisattva respectfully bowed to the World’s Most Venerable. The Lord nodded and silently attested it. —T. V.

The rank of High Level (Mahayana) is joyfully detached and clearly understands the solution of karma. The Bodhisattva knows that the truth pre-exists everywhere like countless strata of secular tiny dust all over the Three Thousand Great Thousand Worlds. It is just the Dharma Body of the Buddha. The Bodhisattva rank knows how to transport, that makes them accomplish the Tathagata Constitution; they therefore frequently recite in mind to believe in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha, aiming to be completely enlightened. The heart of the Buddha is always ready to save in all directions. When the Bodhisattva awakens, they immediately recognize the Buddha power appearing in everywhere to save on every occasion, from the existing circumstance to the thorny, difficult ones. Hence, all that enables the Bodhisattva to clear the karma out; they know that the karma is due to the self-expectation, self-ego, so they have to bear the accumulting karma.

Following the footprint of the Buddhas’ compassion-will-courage, the Bodhisattva practices comprehensively, until they acquire the perfect harmony, completely seeing and knowing that the clearance of the karma is essential. After eliminating karma, the Bodhisattva becomes sensible, naturally getting closer to the Tathagata Buddha — there’s really nothing more precious than that. Even having plenty of wealth and fortune, the Bodhisattva treasures the True Enlightenment, they are willing to exchange everything in order to accompany the Tathagata.

It is the only and inevitable way that all the Tao practitioners have to go through. From The Founding Master having become a Buddha to the Bodhisattvas ranks relying on, THEY all have undergone every fit of resolving karma, every clarifying reason, every releasing stage, and the more rhythmic it is the better the sympathy in the Buddhism sentiment, between the Lord of Supreme Will and the Patriarchs. Because of that, the Bodhisattvas have never consolidated the fruit of their attainment. Why?

It's because either the status or the consolidated fruit of attainment is classified as fictitious rank or false appellation. They therefore make use of reason harmoniously; the fruit of attainment will come naturally. Because leaving the self and self-possession, the reason is harmonious; Because leaving the self, there is never the self-ego, self-conceitedness. That results in no false declaration of Buddha form and there is exclusive the equal essence of nature in company with the Buddha only. —T. V.

It is the same for all the Tao practitioners, from the Bodhisattva rank to the becoming a Buddha; they all have to undergo every difficult stage in resolving karma. At first, the Bodhisattvas have also to make use of reason to clarify and release the consciousness karma, the rooted karma, the suffering karma, and the fetter karma layer by layer. Afterward, they could clear out all the karma, being able to meet the Tathagata. It is just because of such difficulty that the Buddhas are very sympathetic with the Bodhisattvas. As for the Bodhisattvas, they are grateful to the Buddhas, so they are determined to progress tirelessly in their practice, thus never consolidate their position of attainment. As consolidating is clinging and falling into the Dharma precept equivalently to the Two-Levels (Dviyana) of attested practice. In realizing that, the Bodhisattvas have never sought for fictitious status and unreal appellation. They lived simply and intimately with living beings. Therefore, the living beings and even the Arahants could not recognize them.

The Enlightened One is clear-sighted and righteous, the precious words of truth are emitted from His golden body. All the Bodhisattvas, each of them has received the truth to proceed in their practice, some time later they acquired the truth and became a succeeding Patriarch to teach the doctrine. The ranks of Fairies, Devas, Deities, Dragon-Deities, as well as Dharma Protectors up to Bodhisattva Dharma Protectors all listen to each teaching word. In those teaching words, whether they digest or not, depending on the respect toward the Buddha to receive it, keep it, by which they readily acquire the Dharma of truth. Either receiving one breath or looking at one finger or one toe of the Buddha walking gently and comfortably is to receive the truth, together with the ranks of Devas, Fairies, Dharma Protectors, and Mahasattva-Bodhisattva Dharma Protectors, to thoroughly comprehend, complete the True Enlightenment and become the Buddha. —T. V.

Practicing until reaching the entire truth, accomplishing the Bodhisattvahood is actually too difficult. As if having accomplished it, a Tao practitioner still has to wait many lifetimes until they can meet a Buddha to be attested by Him, in order for them to be integrated into the constitution, only then can they truly represent the Buddhas to make the complete salvation for living beings. And from the Bodhisattva cultivating entirely to accomplish the Miraculous Bodhi Fruit such as The Founding Master in the past until now the Lord Maitreya is extremely rare.

The inherited Bodhisattva receives the Buddha power and teaches the doctrine to all the ranks, from the Dharma Protectors, Bodhisattva Dharma Protectors to the Devas, Fairies, Deities, and Dragon-Deities who, after hearing a Dharma, immediately receive it and acquire the truth.

Due to the sensibility and prompt perception, the Bodhisattva just looking over a gesture, a finger, or a toe of the Buddha—belonging to the Buddha’s miraculous utilization—could feel at ease to perceive the truth thoroughly. Because the truth inherently exists, only those who are burdensome due to their karma, have difficulty to perceive it; while the sensible one perceives it easily and understands it profoundly by just a tiny gesture of the Buddha. Therefore, the Buddhas and the Bodhisattvas are very easy to comprehend each other through the Enlightenment-about-Form Part.
